What could be more scary than going to the doctors to talk about your most private female health issues in a language that isn’t your own? Especially when you might not know the correct vocabulary, be able to describe your problem well or understand the medical professional!
I have personally been there. I still remember going to my first midwife’s appointment nearly 25 years ago, carrying a dictionary in my bag because I was afraid that I wouldn’t understand everything.
This is why I’m offering an English lesson on Women’s Health for communities, because I’m convinced that there are many women out there who struggle to understand important vocabulary such as ‘smear tests’ and ‘mammogram’.
